"The end of the dock"

A man was sitting at the end of a dock one early September morning fishing. He cast his line  far into the water, hoping and praying for a bite. Eventually, as the hours went by without so much as a single nibble, he decided to try a new tactic. He packed up his lure box, set everything neatly on the wood that suspended him above the water, and slowly inched his way to the side of the creaky boards, and dove in. He floated downwards, and downwards into the water. What he discovered amazed him... there were literally thousands of fish everywhere! They swam by him over and over again, almost completely unaware of his presence. He soon realized that all he had to do to get a fish was to reach out and grab one. He began grabbing as many as he could before heading up to the surface. Once he was back up on the dock, he put his bountiful catch into his cooler, and headed home... sure to have a good meal that night.
Isn't that true to how new believers are? I know that I'm like that. I'm hungry for God's word. I'm striving to discover new things through him every day. However, I'll cast my line out into his ocean, and I seldom catch anything he says. But when I dive into scripture, and float down to the depths of his glory, I see words left and right. All I have to do is reach out and Grab one.

Phillipians 2:12 (MSG) says "What I'm getting at, friends, is that you should simply keep on doing what you've done from the beginning. When I was living among you, you lived in responsive obedience. Now that I'm absent, keep it up. Better yet, redouble your efforts..."

Sometimes God seems distant from us, doesn't he? We can seek him out day after day, but if we haven't opened our hearts for him to draw near to us, he can't speak to us. If he can't speak to us, then we feel rejected, and in turn, some reject him. However, sometimes he's waiting for us to leave our comfort zone, and go the extra mile to seek him. It is then that we're rewarded more blessings than we could count. Just like the man with the fish, he knew that if he didn't catch anything, he would go hungry that night. He had to leave the comfort of his chair on the dock and dive in. And boy, did he get fed!

I encourage all of you reading this to get out of your comfort zones and seek him further. I once heard someone say, when we open our hearts just a little bit to God, He gives us a little bit of His blessing. When we open our hearts fully, it's like a dam bursting from heaven, and we're flooded by a mighty rushing wave of His glory.

My question for you tonight is, will you be fed? Or will you go hungry...

Heavenly Father, I thank you for those reading this right now. I pray that you will lift them up in their daily lives, Lord, and bless them and their loved ones. Reveal to them your word, and open up their ears to hear you speak to them. Father, give them the courage to leave their comfort zones and travel just a little bit further to seek you more. I pray a flood of blessings to be bestowed upon them when they do. Amen.
